Seasonal Transitions and Your Health

The seasons and their elemental associations are integral to Chinese medicine theory and practice. Summer is hot and yang, energy is expansive, outward and full of growth. As we slowly make our way toward the Autumn equinox there is a turning towards a more yin time of the year, more quiet and introspection, reaping what was sown in the previous months.

In Chinese medicine the seasons are not events that are separate or external from us, instead we integrate them into our lives and see the internal changes of our mind and body. Our ability to change with the seasons is reflected in our health and happiness and maintaining balance through these seasonal transitions deeply benefits our wellbeing.

Many people find that around the change of seasons physical symptoms like colds and flu, coughs, seasonal allergies, or aches and pains may arise or worsen. Emotional imbalances and stressors may intensify.

Consider the three weeks before and after the Autumn equinox as especially important times for creating this seasonal transition balance. Acupuncture, herbs, diet and self care can all help strengthen immunity and regulate the nervous system. This time of self-care can greatly set the stage for the kind of fall and winter you will have.

Holistic Health Acupuncture in two locations in Medford, OR

Medford Holistic Health

We have had our Medford, Oregon branch for less than a year.  Most of our clients know we are there two days a week now, but we could use help getting the word out to anyone you may know who lives in Medford, Central Point, Jacksonville, Phoenix, or Eagle Point.  We are contracted on major insurance panels and also take Jackson Care Connect and Allcare.

Until our Medford location grows to capacity we will be sharing a clinic with acupuncturist David Tara. We are located within Three Treasures Chinese Medicine on East Barnett in the Lazy River Business Center. Jenn Collins sees clients there currently on Tuesdays, and Jenny Riegg sees clients there on Fridays.

We are excited to expand our services to the greater Rogue Valley .  Stay tuned for future updates and please send your co-workers, neighbors, and friends in for treatments.  We are always happy to give a free consultation at either the Ashland or Medford location.

La Clinica Wellness Center Acupuncture Services

We are proud to have been chosen to partner with La Clinica Wellness Center on Biddle Road in Medford.  Patients of any of the La Clinica centers can come to the Wellness center to receive acupuncture treatments with us.  La Clinica Wellness Center is an amazing resource for our valley. They have excellent MDs, NPs and Medical Assistants, and they also offer yoga, zumba, meditation, mindfulness, and cooking classes at their state of the art wellness facility. If you haven’t checked it out go to the website, or just stop by and learn about all the wonderful opportunities available.

News and Resources on Acupuncture in the Rogue Valley and Beyond

It has been a busy past few months for us at Holistic Health Acupuncture.

This February Jenn Collins and Jenny Riegg began offering acupuncture treatments to patients at La Clinica Wellness Center in Medford, Oregon and are excited to keep building our partnership with such a great clinic, staff and clientele. Jenn & Jenny are there 2 days a week treating everything from headaches, back & neck pain, and allergies to insomnia, stress and support with smoking cessation. Patients have been very thankful for our services and we are happy to be part of the growing trend of acupuncture being integrated into primary care medical settings.

We also had the privilege to attend the annual Integrative Fertility Symposium (IFS) in Vancouver, B.C. earlier this Spring. IFS brings together leading professionals in the fields of fertility, maternity care and pediatrics.  Acupuncturists, MDs, NDs, NPs, Reproductive Endocrinologists, and Nutritionists gathered for 4 days of courses specializing in reproductive health. It was incredibly inspiring to be surrounded by so many brilliant speakers and clinicians from all over the globe and we are enjoying bringing back what we have learned to our clients here in the Rogue Valley.

Here are a few links to some of this information that we’d like to share with anyone interested in women’s health, pregnancy, and fertility.

  • The Center for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research has a lot of articles and resources for women of all ages on their page.
  • Debra Betts, a leading expert on acupuncture and pregnancy from New Zealand, has an incredible site filled with information for anyone wanting to know more about how acupuncture can help with pregnancy.
  • Dr. Lorne Brown of Acubalance Wellness Center in BC has a plethora of talks, interview, and articles on his site for understanding how acupuncture works and adds to the success of Fertility treatments.

Acupuncture for Healthy Pregnancy

It is a joy and honor to work with women during pregnancy and both Jenn & Jenny have specialty acupuncture training in maternity care. Acupuncture is able to offer safe and effective support for myriad conditions through all stages of gestation encouraging wellness for both mom and baby.

Some women sail through pregnancy with few issues while others need extra support and medical care. Acupuncture and some herbal remedies can be safely used throughout all trimesters offering a viable alternative to prescription medications and more invasive interventions. The most common conditions seen to respond well to acupuncture during pregnancy include morning sickness, fatigue, heartburn, constipation, hemorrhoids, back and pelvic pain, sciatica, headaches, stress and anxiety. Through acupuncture and herbs we also work with abnormal bleeding and threatened miscarriage as well providing complementary care for certain higher risk conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and breech presentations.

We encourage our maternity clients to begin coming in weekly starting at 36 weeks for our Pre-Birth treatment series. These are treatments using standardized point protocols shown to encourage cervical ripening helping to optimize efficient and safe births and fewer medical interventions.

And don’t forget to include acupuncture and herbs for post partum care. A tremendous amount of Qi & Blood is expended during gestation, birth and lactation and we highly encourage new mothers to come in to rebuild their vitality and for self care after baby has arrived. We can assist in post-partum hormone balance and depression, lactation issues and more.

Fertility Acupuncture in Medford and Ashland

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine are becoming famous in the world of helping couples who face fertility challenges.  Jenn Collins and Jenny Riegg are experts in this aspect of Chinese Medicine and truly love working with couples who are trying to create a family.

We have spent hundreds of hours in advanced training on the treatment of disorders such as:  PCOS, Unexplained Infertility, Recurrent Pregnancy Loss, Hormonal Imbalance, poor sperm count and quality, Endometriosis, and poor quality egg and endometrial lining .  These disorders are often so complex and there can be many levels to their treatment.  Chinese medicine truly shines in this area, and often offers a unique perspective of care that can work on its own, or in concordance with western reproductive medicine.

What We Treat with Chinese Medicine

At Holistic Health Acupuncture, couples can expect a long history and intake with us on the initial visit to uncover all the underlying aspects of the fertility picture.  We may recommend blood tests, or we might want to look at basal Body temperatures and discuss length and description of the menstrual cycle.  Couples should expect to come regularly for 4 months of treatment and possibly more depending upon the complexity of the diagnosis.  Chinese Herbs are often prescribed unless the couple is undergoing IVF. Once a woman becomes pregnant it is up to her if she chooses to continue treatment, but many women love to keep coming for the deep relaxation and comfort that they get from the treatments.

It is one of our biggest joys when we get those emails or calls that a patient has gotten a positive pregnancy test.  It just warms up our hearts and there are often tears of joy exchanged here at the clinic on these occasions.

We offer free consultations for those who are interested in learning more about our fertility acupuncture program. For a short video presentation, view How Acupuncture Helps Fertility.
